In this role, you’ll use your security skills while also building genuine relationships and making a meaningful difference in the lives of students from Australia and around the world. You’ll become a trusted and approachable presence within a close-knit residential community.

Position Details

• Location: Australian National University, Canberra

• Employment type: Casual

• Shifts: Night shifts only

• Roster: Tuesday and Thursday

• Shift times: 8:00pm – 4:00am

What You’ll Be Doing

• Building rapport with students through positive, friendly engagement

• Providing after-hours support and responding to wellbeing concerns

• Conducting presence-based walkthroughs (non-enforcement focused)

• Assisting with student lockouts, enquiries, and amenity access

• Coordinating with on-call emergency or security services when required

• Logging incidents and updates in reporting systems

• Supporting student engagement and community-building initiatives

• Liaising with university staff and residential life teams

• Light administrative and concierge-style responsibilities

Who We’re Looking For

We’re interested in two types of candidates:

• Experienced Security Officers seeking a more community-focused, people-centric role

• People-focused professionals (e.g. community services, allied health, education, youth work, student support, multicultural services, hospitality or customer service) who hold a current ACT Security Licence

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

• Communicate with empathy and professionalism

• Remain calm, approachable, and composed under pressure

• Have strong customer service experience

• Are confident completing written reports

• Are IT-competent and detail-oriented

• Are willing to learn and develop

What You’ll Need!

• ACT Security Licence - Must have

• First Aid & CPR Certificate - willing to obtain

• Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) - willing to obtain

• Working with Vulnerable People Check (ACT) - willing to obtain

• Willingness to complete Trauma-Informed Care and Mental Health First Aid training
